Cheated on Guesthouse motel in Mobile, Alabama

Kaj and I checked into a Guesthouse motel in Mobile, Alabama on our U.S.A. 2002 tour using the local Traveler Discount Guide's hotel coupons. At the reception Kaj asked, if the $29,95 coupon (shown below) was valid for that specific motel, which the clerk confirmed. As the clerk was very busy at the time, he asked Kaj to sign an empty check-in form, and stated that he would fill in all the data later.

Further, Kaj was asked to leave the whole Traveler Discount Guide with the clerk and he promised to cut out the coupon later. She didn’t have a problem with that, as this was our only overnight accommodation in Alabama, why we didn’t needed it anymore.

When we checked out the next morning, the price was increased to $45, which we of course complained of. The clerk that morning, Christy, stated that she couldn’t find any discount coupon, why we had to pay the normal rate. But if we could show the $29,95 coupon, that would be the price. I was ready to go back to the gas station and pick up a new Traveler Discount Guide to solve the problem, but Christy stated, that it had to be the Discount Guide from yesterday. Then she laughed. The Guesthouse can be glad it was a female clerk...

Anyway, we didn’t expect to meet such a lack of service in U.S.A. Especially not in the South. When we came home, I wrote an email to the customer service, which replied the same day. They stated, that I should be hearing something from the property soon. But no reply so far, so now I give them a bad publicity on the web instead.

Our recommendation: Do always get the offer on print and don't sign anything that is not filled in. Finally, check in anywhere else than a Guesthouse motel. Besides cheating, their staff is boorish.
